Ok my Mcafee subscription ends in 3 days and I was wondering if I switch to a new AV. Mcafee has been good to me but my parents want something new. We have Mcafee where it can be used on 3 different computers. I love Mcafee's site advisor!!!! Does another AV have something like that? Anyway whats the best AV you can buy right now? Please do not recommend free AV you can download I just feel safer buying it. I was looking at Kaspersky but I don't know which one to get or to stay with Mcafee. Thanks!

I've had great luck with Norton Internet Security 2009 and Avira AntiVir Premium. Both are extremely low on resources and have had very solid reviews. You should download and install a trial of both and decide which one you like before buying.

Just an FYI; you really shouldn't discount all the free offerings out there. Some are very good, even better than many paid ones. "Paid" does not always mean "better".

This is an absolutely true statement. You shouldn't discredit the free AV softwares. Avira, Avast, and AVG are among the most popular out there. However, if you insist on purchasing an AV software, Bit Defender and Kapersky are good choices and often highly regarded on the online community.

I recommend Avira. If you insist on paying for it, then get the paid version of Avira.

I've used Avast for going on 4 or 5 years. I combine that with SuperAntiSpyware and have never encountered anything they couldn't handle. Would definitely recommend Avast.

You can get either the ESET NOD32 AntiVirus, which is really low on system resources, and has a very high detection rate. You will not even feel your system has an antivirus program running, yes, its that good.

If you want a full suiete, firewall, plus antivirus, then you might wanna consider the ESET Smart Security Suite

Both demos are available here to download >>> http://www.eset.com/download/free_trial_download_int.php

Try them out, see how u like them, then purchase.

just read the review out there :) they are the best

MaXimus: NOD's AV is great, but it's firewall, not so much. It consistently scores in the bottom 5 of matousec's comparison.

For a total protection suite, go with Kasp. For AV alone, NOD32. Now if you want to know what the best overall AV program is, it's Avira free. It's combination of top class protection, while being free, is not beat by the slightly better protection offered by paid programs.

Oh I didn't know that about the ESET firewall thanks for the tip. I have been using NOD32 for 5 years now and never had a problem nor a virus.

Any antivirus program is better than McAfee dude!

McAfee Virus scan is the biggest resource hog and has a very bad detection / cleaning rate

McAfee? ya gotta be kidding! The worst AV suite ever! Read my thread about it here >>> http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=398851

ESET NOD32 AntiVirus is the best out there, lightest on system resources with the highest detection rate, I never missed a virus in my 4 years of using NOD32. You won't even feel you have an AV running on your system, yes, it's that LIGHT.

Try the demo out dude, its free

LOL! AS 6920G have its build-in Mcafee suite which I always uninstall it after the restore to default factory. After all, I would install Avira Free edition. XD!
It is a great free AV which better than McAfee.

I think Kaspersky isn't a bad decision. Looks like you're in a hurry there with 3 days left...

I like how Kaspersky 2009 AV has P2P File Sharing Protection and Registry Startup Protection. However, I've read that Kaspersky has no Firewall protection, so it might be something to think about. However, if you're running Vista, Windows has its own Firewall.

Also, Kaspersky is a bit more pricey compared to its competitors.

By the way, if the Site Advisor of Mcafee was a key feature in your decision; Norton/Symantec Internet Security has that too and it works great (I've been using it with NIS 2009). But you can download the site advisor add-ons separately anyway.

Oh. I was referring to Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2009 and its predecessors. Correct me though if I'm wrong, but based on reviews I've read, Kaspersky AV has no Firewall, as of 2009. I'm not sure about the 2010 version as it might already have included it.

The review on PC Antivirus Reviews on this link says that 2009 has no Firewall. Its predecessor, AV 7, as reviewed by CNET is lacking firewall protection as well.

The Box of Kaspersky AV 2009 also doesn't mention specific firewall.

However, please correct me if I'm wrong as I might have misinterpreted the reviews I read. I use Symantec/Norton and have not used Kaspersky before so I have no first-hand experience.

    Thanks...

There are two software packages: Kaspersky Anti-Virus and Kaspersky Internet Security, the latter has the firewall.

and Amazon only sell it for $24.22(no tax and free shipping)?
If as you said, Halo360Fan might make a wrong decision and look like has been scammed by the website he went.

You should get a free upgrade no probem. I did the same thing with Symantec/Norton. I used to have Norton Internet Security 2008 (and I'm glad I don't anymore), and I got a free upgrade to 2009 since my subscription was still ongoing.

The guys at Symantec just told me to download NIS 2009 (the 15 or 30 day trial) as if I were trying it. Then I just entered the registration key from the 2008 box and I was able to upgrade. However, I had to run a full uninstallation of the 2008 version but it got a lot better with the Norton Removal Kit.

Might work the same way for Kaspersky...

    I use Nod32 Eset Smart Security 4.
No problems whatsoever in all the time I've been using Nod32 for years now.

Despite the fact that the ESS firewall is not exactly stellar ... it should be more than adequate when working with Windows Firewall in union (which is what I have set up in Win 7 and Vista x64).

    Not really.
This is Windows Firewall we are talking about ... and I haven't experienced any issues.
Ever since I installed Eset Smart security on Win7 both it and the Windows firewall worked together in union.
I haven't experienced slowdowns or compatibility issues.

In any event, the point was that regardless of the fact how ESS firewall is not exactly stellar, in combo with Windows Firewall it get's the job done.
But even on XP or Vista I haven't experienced any issues with Nod 32 being the only line of defense.
