I am frustrated with this, i'm not sure what caused this but it might have been me trying to disable the ad notifier. About a week ago I followed the instructions to disable the ad notifier (disabling permissions), but just recently, I noticed it's icon was missing and was replaced by the typical unknown icon thing. I tried to investigate, and it turns out I have no permission to view the Avira folder in my program files. I followed others instructions to fix it, but now my avira cannot be enabled for some reason.

I tried to system restore back to other points, no luck. Any help? If you don't understand, will clarify later, g2g and am trying to see what responses i will get.

Start from scratch with Avira then. Remove it completely and re-installing it, paying attention to what options you want to keep.

    cheers ...

Uninstallation is kinda messed up because it didn't give me permission to. Eventually it was kind of successful, but when I reinstalled, avira didn't work. I have since then turned to Avast!.

Good choice. Used to be an Avast fan myself, but now moving to MSE.

    cheers ...

You might want to know that Avast has a larger resource use and lower detection rate when compared to MSSE, so it might be prudent to switch (again) to that, if you want a slightly better protection.
