Did you try removing the program, clean the registry, and re-installing it.

I had a problem with the ver. 7 when I first installed it and after I did this, it worked.

Version 8 has not been a problem.

Also, check the configuration link at the top of the main screen and check update and make sure that you have update configured correctly for your Internet connection.

I installed avira 8 last night and it updated right away.
Guys again the free server is getting so busy today morning. Try updating in the night.

The free server is so slow in the mornings (german time). Try updating in the nights (german time).

my update window also doesn't show on windows 7, so i have to resort to manual updating. On my XP, it automatically updates fine.

Could be a windows 7 issue.

Are you running the beta Avira 9 meant for Windows 7? If not you should.

Have tried installing it in compatability mode in W7? maybe that would solve ur problem. Avira works perfectly fine for me on W7.

Also, maybe try reinstalling Avira and during the setup process, select 'Complete Install' instead of "Custom Install'. When my update window didnt appear i used the custom install process. But after reinstall with "complete Install' selection, updates worked fine. I knw, its wierd, but jus give it a try and see. :)

    Cheers.

hey guys, do you think that Avira is really that effective as an anti virus? I mean, I have been using it for years, but now i shifted to Kaspersky, do you think that was a right move, replacing Avira that is?

Free is good. Save your money and buy something else.
