I have to think that my laptop has some kind of virus on it. I ran a complete scan but didn't find anything. I ran update and was "immediately told" that it's up to date. Note that it normally takes 2-3 mins for Avira to connect to the server, so I don't think it even check the server.

Anyway, i just think how embarassed it is that an anti-virus is affected by the thing it was supposed to protect us from.

I was having similar issues with Avira and switched to Avast which is equally good and all is well now. What's weird is that I was having problems with Avira updating which sometimes took 15-20 minutes before connecting to the server.

It even got stranger because it was happening on several of my computers as well. And then the kicker was that others on NBR had no trouble updating Avira. That's what drove me bonkers. So I switched all my PC's to Avast and I get my updates several times a day. Give Avast a try and it's free. :)
