Hmmm... it seems that the comparison was done with AVG 7.5, not the new 8.0 version.

I'm currently using Avira free and Threatfire. What do you think of turning off Threatfire while using Avira Premium?

What types of evil does TF address that are not covered by Avira premium?

It's a behavioral real time scanner, Avira is an on demand scanner. Although I'm not 100% sure if Avira premium has real time too.

    Premium has a "guard" function:

You will normally want to monitor your system constantly. To this end, use the Guard (= on-access scanner). With this you can scan all files that are copied or opened on the workstation for viruses and unwanted programs "on the fly".

Then it should be alright to let both of them run, if you start having problems, uninstalling TF would be okay.

Just to be clear, I'm not asking if there is any problem in running both TF and premium, I'm asking if premium alone is likely to be adequate protection.

Yes i understand, just telling you since Avira has a guard it's okay to turn off TF, but you should only do it if there are problems.

Oh yeah Avira 8 is probably going to be released tomorrow as a free upgrade.
