I have Avira ver9. for the guard which actively is scanning files would I want it to use file extension list or use smart extensions?

What would be the pros and cons to this in the real world for an average user?

Rather vague on the actual rules and algorithms used in the "Smart Extension" settings, but I guess that's to be expected.
