I know I've heard people say this combo works well together. My question is, will they conflict with each other? It seems like threatfire is an antivirus as well. Also, should I be disabling features on one or the other to avoid conflicts?

Also, would it be safe to turn of windows defender now that I have threatfire?

    Currently have,

Avira Antivirus and threatfire both running realtime. I also have A Squared free for dealing with my spyware and I have CCleaner.

I'm having no problems or conflicts with that combo whatsoever. Threatfire works in a different way from Avira for the most part. Go for it, they work great together.

    I'd ditch Windows Defender now.

Windows defender is a good real time spyware protection. It's safe to have it ON. Threatfire just blocks behaviour based infections. A-squared free doesn't have real time protection either. Avira free also doen't have spyware protection.

No, you don't need to turn one off. If you had Comodo pro firewall, you'd need to disable D+ as having that combo may cause slowdowns. It's also safe to turn off Windows defender as it isn't a very good anti-malware program.
