I recently upgraded Avira 9 to 10 on my XP system. 9 used to take an hour or two for its daily scan. 10 takes four or more hours, and seems to slow the computer while it scans more than 9 did.

Any suggestions other than switching to another AV program? I was thinking of MSE.

I really think you should go with MSE. Just give it a try. I can almost guarantee that you will stick with it afterward.

I have seen the same with avira 10

MSE...I have seen inexplicable slow downs with MSE on Vista when Windows Defender is installed.

    Consider Avast or Panda Cloud

MSE disables Windows Defender during it's installtion. If it didn't, you should disable Windows Defender manually when running MSE. You don't need WD as MSE already includes Antispyware.

I wait one month to update to Avira 10 to avoid problems. The only problem I found with Avira 10 is the automatic update. It doesn't work. So if you see the pop-up doesn't mean it get the update.

Thanks to my brother. He found in Internet that the solution is making the update in schedule.

For the rest. The scanning time nd resources used are technically the same.
