Normal you just do a free registration from within the program, just name and email address, I normally register when i first install avast, so i am not fully certain what you do after a year, most likely the same.

Avast Internet Security is not free, if the license or the trial period have run out, you'll need to either purchase a new one or install free version of Avast.

    ^this.
the free version has a lot less programs included including no firewall so i think you just need to delete full version and download free version and register.
remember to turn on windows firewall as well.

Be careful which buttons you click on. It's very easy to click on the paid version by accident, so you need to watch out.

Only if you get the free limited version.

This is is hard to comprehend. Windows already has it's own Firewall why put more firewall that will more or less cause more problems. Just get MSE or Defender(Windows 8) and this will work as one system Firewall/A-V/Malware scanner in one package and they are all Window product so they are free and you don't have to pay for it since you already own Windows.

normally all the paid packages come with their own firewall and i would always use that over the windows firewall anyday. no problems caused what so ever as long as windows firewall is turned off.
for the free version turn windows firewall on.

MSE, your having a laugh :) good when it first came out and pants now. lowest detection rate from an independent test carried out and its posted on here somewhere.

Really those so called independent test aren't independent from what I read somewhere as well. I used it so far for the last 4 years and no problems.
