I currently have Avast 4.8 running on my laptop and I love it... On a friends laptop though that I was fixing up recently, I went to the Avast website to see that 5.0 had been released... When I installed it I was suprised by the complete overhaul in the UI... But the biggest suprise was that the free registration expires in one year, where as with 4.8 it was good forever... Why is this? Can the license be renewed after the year is up?

Also, is 5.0 better than 4.8, or should I just leave 4.8 on my laptop?

i would of thought it can be renewed each year.
i reckon they will be releasing a newer version each year so you wont need more than 1 year as you will be deleating it or over righting it.

I find version 5.0 to be more intuitive and easier to get around in than the older versions.

Even in the older versions I have always had to renew the registration every year, which doesn't take much time and is totally free.

I have used Avast for a few years now and they always have had the one year registration. The latest version seems faster and works well without bugs. Do they still support and update the older version?
