I was going to use Antivir for virus protection(based soley on this forums opinions), and spybot for my spyware protection. Do I need a firewall? Any advice, tips, other options? Do I need anything else? FYI I use Mozilla for my explorer. Thanks for any help.

Avira and A-squared are the 2 best IMO.

If you don't mind spending some money, then I whole-heartedly recommend Kaspersky Internet Security. It's everything you need in once package; a very darn good package.

I think that spybot is an awesome spyware tool that now has some pretty good real time coverage. I think if Antivir doesn't work out for you you should definitely look at AVG. :)

You can get all from Comodo for free - firewall, antivirus, anti-malware..

AV; Avira or Avast if you use an email client.
AS; SUPERantispyware is an excellent on-demand scanner. (A-squared or MBAM are also very good programs)
FW; If you are behind a decent router, you already have a layer of protection present of course.
If not you certainly need a software FW. In the first case I'd still install a decent software FW though like Comodo or Online Armor (XP only), both offer a HIPS. If you don't use the Comodo HIPS, ThreatFire is an option.

If you find yourself visiting a dodgy website now and then (for whatever reason ;) ) get yourself the Firefox add-on 'NoScript' and use it when visiting those sites. AdBlockPlus is another excellent FF add-on.
