I run Avast, (Switched from NOD32) and want another stand along program for when I let my PC Idle at night.
I'm sick of like NOD finding, but not deleting, or NOD missing this or that, and Avast finding everything and deleting everything.
But I'm worried that Avast is missing some things, because my system is still pretty screwed up and most of the time V scans show nothing.
I know it's not good to install two AVs, so that's whyI want either a freestanding one or one I can install and only have it run when I want it to.

Like that for instance my Chinese IME is screwed up and I can't change the options anymore or put the bar in the taskbar.

Please don't tell me that it's bad to run X amount of AVs, I just want to make sure there's nothing on my PC so I have less to blame when it melts.

    ESPECIALLY for scanning flash drives!
My girlfriend plugs her flash into her teachers PC to get the class notes, as does all 5,000 people who go there, everyday.

i use dr web free av scan called cure it as a second one when i want to, its on their web site and free and does not require you to even install it. dr web is great at removal. also kaspersky has a free on demand scanner available you can use that is free also. it doesnt run unless you ask it to. i to have dropped nod because of getting infected many times while running it and it would always have a hard time removing or not remove at all for me.

    dr web is from here:
    http://www.freedrweb.com/

avast is a decent av. imo free wise i would recc avira any day though over avast. they just detect that much more.

even the new norton 2009 is a awesome av this year. and decent at removal, i personally like kaspersky because its great at removal and really good at detection but those are the paid versions

Yeah thanks for the Drweb link that's pretty good.
I'm also looking for things to add to my thumbdrive for when I have to fix a friends PC.

I'd say get Kaspersky - you can get the Antivirus only, but I use the full suite.
