I just updated to Avast 6 from Avast 5 within the program. Not sure why it hadn't auto-updated the program. Looks like everything went fine, except in addition to the three shield I've always used, File, Web and Network, I also have Script Shield. It seems kind of superfluous and a waste of resources. Any way to ditch it, apart from manually stopping it each time I boot my PC?

Simply open Control Panel>Programs and Features.
    Select 'Avast'.
Double click it; from the options; 'Change, Uninstall and Update', select 'Change' and then remove the checkmark for 'Script Shield'.
    That's it.

Yes, it can be disabled, perminantly, open the interface, real time shields - script shields, click stop and U should see a drop down box with 4 options. I have 8 differnet shields BTW & also had to do a manual update from 5. to version 6.0.1000. BTW I changed to manual updates for definitions after the lastest fiasco. Hope this helps, J
