As April 12th marks the final date of AVG 7.5 Free, I'd appreciate feedback from those who have recently switched to AVG 8.5 Free. I've had no complaints with 7.5 and am aware of complaints about 8.0. However I've not seen much about 8.5.

I have Avast on another computer(due to an application incompatability with AVG 7.5) but have never tried Avira.

Thanks in advance to those who read this and take the time to respond.

if your OS is supported, you should be fine... my ancient Travelmate was running with 8.0 even better than with previous 7.5 (the newer version needed less resources). some people dislike the GUI etc, but to be honest, i'd not really care for the look when the core is way better.

in case of any issues, needing help with settings or whatever, you can ask for help at http://freeforum.avg.com/ - you can find there the most common issues discussed.

Been using AVG for years. Tried to update to 8.5 got errors using Firefox and then registry errors using IE. Removed all traces of AVG from my two machines and installed AVAST without any probs. One machine is XP SP3 and the other is Vista Home Prem SP1.

Sigh...for me it was always a toss up between Avast and Avira after using AVG for years. Hated AVG 8.0.

Out of the three, Avira won hands down.

Still on my system and will stay there until Avira looses it....

    Cheers
