I just bought a brand new Asus EEE 1000HD (I love it) What do you guys suggest for a anti-virus program? Obviously its a budget computer so I need something that isn't going slow down my computer so much like McaFee does.

    If free, Avira
    If commercial, NOD32 or BitDefender.

I use Avira on my netbook. Works well, the only nag is when it updates definitions, it throws a popup about how i should buy the other versions and not run the free.

If paid, get Norton Internet Security 2009. It's one of the top now.

Oh, and to all you Norton bashers out there, Norton slows down your computer now as little as NOD32 (very little slow down), according to AV-Comparisons, and it also catches 4% more viruses than NOD32.

I think we have a winner.

Free : I suggest Avira or AVG Free.
    Pay: Norton Internet Security 2009.

I fully agree. I use Norton 09 myself. But, can you post a link to that comparason please? Im trying to convince my dad into Norton, he has always hated them for some reason. So he wants to see "real" facts. ;)
So if you have time, please post or PM me with link. :)

I've only tried free ones...I hear Avira is just as good as AVG, but I like AVG's interface better. As far as $$ antiviruses go, I get the impression Norton is redeeming itself, but I know Kaspersky and NOD32 are good.

For free AV...this is the best I have ever used. ;)

    Cin ;) :)

For anyone that uses Avira free program, is a spyware scanner mandatory since Avira doesn't catch spyware?

Or is just on demand for spyware ok?

Windows Defender should be fine for real time spyware protection.

The problem is, I have a dinosaur for a computer (pentium 4, 1.6 mhz) and was hoping I could do without real time spyware protection in order to avoid a drain on my processor.

Just use spyware blaster then, and be smart with your browse habits.
