    Gidday guys

I am running Kaspersky Internet Security 2009 with Vista. Should I have Windows Defender turned on or off? Same for the Windows Firewall, on or off?

Just not sure how these should be configured with an anti-virus program running.

    Thanks and regards to all.

Definitely turn off Windows Firewall; however, it was probably turned off automatically by Kasp when you installed it. KIS2009 has a firewall built in.

If you don't like/use Windows Defender, you can turn it off. KIS 2009 has anti-spyware protection. I would suggest getting SuperAntiSpyware as your secondary anti-spyware program instead of Windows Defender.

I'd turn off Windows Defender, no need to run 2x antispyware.

As for firewall, if you like simple, then just use the Windows one, it's good enough for most people. If you need more advanced options, then use the KIS one. But don't think the Windows one is bad, it's actually not, just doesn't have many options, that's all. Also, if you're behind a router already, there is no point of running something too "advanced" imo since your router already has a built-in firewall.

KIS is overkill IMO but to each his own.

The Antivirus is more than enough, Windows Firewall is good enough for genaeral useage unless you are someone who does 100s of financial transactions daily, and still, Windows Firewall is not bad, just doesn't give you much options.

Finally, Windows DEFENDER is a POS! USe SuperAntiSpyware and see how many spyware itll catch more as opposed to Windows Defender

If Windows Defender isn't to your liking (or to the liking of wettek, I don't see how KIS is overkill - especially if the OP just happens to like the app.

Why not just install SuperAntiSpyware along with whatever else the OP happens to prefer, just to see how he might feel about that particular anti-spyware program, which I dislike, fwiw. I don't think it's so important that a Windows user chooses particular malware apps, as long as he does have protection. Some may be better than others, but simply having them (more than one in the case of anti-spyware), is the most important issue, IMO.
