Can anyone recommend a good internet security suite for Vista? In XP, I used ZoneAlarm 7, but it seems to have problems in Vista. I don't much care for norton or mcafee as they take up too much resources. Any suggestions? Right now, I think Kaspersky would be the best, but I'm not sure about its firewall.

Firewall, if you have a router, you'll be fine. I wouldn't worry 'bout that. Windows Firewall does the trick

I already have a key for Kaspersky (good for another 243 days), so I'm pretty sure I'm going to use Kaspersky for antivirus. My main concern right now is the firewall. I have ZoneAlarm 7.0 installed on my other XP machines, but it doesn't seem to be working in Vista, so I tried installing the 7.1 version. The 7.1 version, however, won't recognize my serial number and I don't want to buy another version just so I'll be able to use it on Vista. Right know, I basically have to decide between Kaspersky (the firewall included in the internet security suite), the free Zone Alarm version, and Norton Internet Security (I also have a key for that). Any suggestions?

    http://www.9down.com/Comodo-Firewall-Pro-3-0-7-208-Beta-15051/

Comodo has been a great firewall through my xp years now in vista. They're official version 3 for vista hasn't been released but this is the beta. I have been using this so far and no problems. There were 2 alpha versions so no kinks or bugs that I have noticed. I know it looks sketchy but this was the only like I found that woudn't require you to join their forums and go through all that trouble. But then again some people have been complaining about bugs so its up to you. Its been a great free firewall for many years now.

Yeah, I use comodo for my windows xp. And if you're behind a router or a hardware firewall, I wouldn't worry too much; firewalls already mentioned are pretty good and will be enough...Assuming you've got good internet browsing habits ;)

Is there anything special you have to do to activate a firewall in a router? Or is it just there...

I actualy think that the firewall built in vista is okay much better improvment then in Xp.

However i do believe the two major concerns are
    Anti Virus
    Anti Spyware

To combat this i personaly i use

Avast pro ~ free is just as good
Spybot Search and Destroy - supporting this software for quite some time =)
Routers normaly have a built in passive firewall to configure thous settings you just got to log into your router and change the ports you want to be opened and when also a DMZ can be established on your router if you want one specfic computer to override all your firewall settings

I have Windows Firewall turned on, and use AVG for virus and spyware protection. Its a free download and it works well without consuming much memory.

i used comodo for months but went back to zonealarm free. the zone alarm suit gave me too many problems but zonealarm free (just the firewall) is perfect. I combine that with norton antivirus corporate edition (from my university)
