Hi all! I am looking for a good, free anti-rootkit program. One that will not only tell me if I'm infected with a rootkit, but one that'll also remove the rootkit. I do a lot of downloading, so it's entirely possible I've got a malicious rootkit or 20.

Also, is it possible to manually check for rootkits? I have MSE installed & running, along with SuperAntiSpyware and Malwarebyte's AntiMalware for spot scans. My system has been running extremely slow from when I got it on Sept. 3.

I'm running Win 7, with 6GB of RAM on a new Toshiba Qosmio X505-Q890.

Also, how do I look to see what is also loading at start-up? Maybe there's a program(s) loading in the background that is slowing my rig down.

One last thing I failed to mention, when I try to launch IE (8), it sometimes won't launch. I'll get the hour-glass and it'll go away after about 5 secs., and nothing else. This will happen when I click the button on the taskbar and when I try to launch it in All Programs.

If any additional info. is needed to assist me, please let me know.

Thanks for any and all help!

    Use HitmanPro3.

Still, if you seriously think that you have possible rootkits, reinstall Win7.
Do you run x64? If so, you'll have to be careful also.

    TDL3/4 for Windows7-x64 is ITW.
Read up on it, this PDF has a comprehensive explanation from a Microsoft software development engineer on the new Alureon. link
Regarding the slowness of your notebook (since you bought it); do a bare OS reinstall without any of the cruft you've been given for free when purchasing the laptop.

(And as a suggestion; either stop downloading files that you're not sure of you can trust or continue the current modus operandi but don't ever, EVER use that notebook for sensitive/private/banking stuff).
