Which of the three anti-virus scanners above (Kaspersky AV, NOD32, and BitDefender) is the best in terms of security, resource consumption, and efficiency?

    Thanks.

All are top rated malware programs, but I find NOD to be the lightest of the three on resources. That being said, you may wanna look at Avira. It's free version is as good, if not better than paid versions.

    NOD32 ftw.

Kaspersky is as good but much more heavier.

I have BitDefender and it's done a great job protecting me. It's got a great interface, and relatively light on resources (it could be a little better). The new 2009 version is also pretty cheap, you can get it for $25 from Here. That site rates those three as the top antiviruses.

    This site says other wise...

I think I'm going for NOD32 next though, as my antivirus subscription is running out. It is the lightest on resources.

I replaced NOD32 with Avira Antivir Premium (The free version is definitely just as good) on all my computers.
NOD32 used on average at idle(nothing), approximately 30 megs of RAM while Avira is currently using 20 at most.
I find Avira to be quicker and is supposedly better according to the detection rates(Av-comparatives, av-test).

I use NOD32, because it is fast, very fast, does not slow down the system and is one of the best AV scanners out there. NOD32 is perfect in detecting unknown viruses which are in no database.
Kaspersky shall be a bit slower than NOD32 and thus slow down the system a bit (not comparable to Symantec or other slow AV scanners) but shall have better detection, one of the best, of known viruses.

Antivir (the free one) is, this is my personal experience, garbage. Slow, slows down the system, not safe, is not able to remove many viruses and is annoying.

I've used all three Kaspersky, NOD32, and BitDefender in different systems and I prefer BitDefender.
