I keep everything clean on my new M17x and i dont do strange activity on it.. and i got a password stealer  somehow today on my new "clean" m17x..

I would really appreciate some alienware m17x owner input on their best security choices (software) right now.. especially a good firewall that leave control to block/allow specific process .exe manually

im a little bit out of the game regarding security and its my new top priority right now.. please add your input on what you trust as security software on your alienware..

after many years in AVG internet security, i decided to give a try to Microsoft security essentials + windows firewall that came with Win7pro x64. You have the right to tell me its a bad combo and why..

Its not 100% alienware related so sorry in advance to the mod for posting here.. im totally out of idea and counting on the m17x NBR family to protect my M17x as much as humainly possible!

Thank you for your input guys!

SlickDude: 2 weeks without throttling! the new R3 kick!

That sucks man. Change all your passwords asap. That said I use a paid version of McAfee. I like it. Works well, Though there is plenty of hate around for Macafee.

Avast is the most reliable software on the market in my experience. Microsoft security essentials is a popular among IT techs and its free.

Just avoid Norton, it wont catch a cold and Macafee is a resource hog.

Nothing wrong with Norton these days...
I'm happily using Norton Internet Security 2012 on my desktop and my 2 laptops.
My father uses Kaspersky Anti-Virus 2012, but with kids I want to use a security suite. I personally find Kaspersky a bit too heavy.
The rest of my family uses Panda Cloud Antivirus Free.

I personally recommend Avast! for the paranoid and the "rather be safe" user and Microsoft Security Essentials for the "I want protection, but not interference."

I don't own an alienware comp. ;) but what you are asking for is a HIPS/Host Intrusion Protection System.
Such a program will allow you to manually block/allow every specific process.
Check out f.i. Comodo Internet Suite if you don't mind digging in deep and learning a bit about their HIPS Defense+.
I'd also recommend Online Armor, also an excellent HIPS but a tad easier imo and it has an anti-keylogger function and also a whitelist for known safe programs/ .exe files.
Make sure though that you actually want to use a HIPS, it requires some effort.
    See sig for links.
