    This is for all Avira users.

    Do you have 'Protect Antivir processes from unwanted termination' checked in your settings? It's under Configuration>General>Security.

    See, after installing Avira, I began having problems. I leave my computer for a few hours and when I finally return, it's as slow as hell. I manage to open up Task Manager and wow. 6GB of Virtual memory used! [Wish I had taken a screenshot but...] the computer is barely responsive and I couldn't even properly shut it off. Also, the list of processes is actually almost empty [ObjectDock, uTorrent, and some other programs actually disappeared from the list -- they somehow turned off by themselves]. Sort of barebones. And none of the processes actually had high Memory and CPU utilization.

    So I asked Baserk [he was the one who recommended Avira] for help and he mentioned unchecking the said option above *points at topic title*. So I uncheck it and voila. I leave my computer 12, 24 hours running and no problems.

    So I was just wondering, since I think there are a bunch of Avira users out here, is that setting checked on your system? And if it is, are you experiencing the same problems that I stated above? Lastly, does any virus actually have the ability to shut off Avira in order for it to wreak havoc? xD;

    Thanks :)

    I have it checked and have never experienced that problem. I'm not sure if there's any real risk of a virus disabling Avira. I would think Avira's active protection should provide some protection, as well as, other programs like your firewall and/or something like winpatrol. You may want to post up your experiences on the Avira forum and get some help.
