I haven't paid for any Antivirus software in over a decade so I'm not familiar with how it works now. If you install a new one (say ESET) will windows back off and not hinder performance, or do you still have to do through and disable it manually yourself (and risk having it reset itself every once and a while from an update). In other words with they both still be running unless you take special actions?

The last time I tried to disable the windows one was on a slow 2GB win 10 laptop where it slowed the system down, but it would always re-enable itself so I gave up trying.
