This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Good to see this being flagged up.
    I've had to remove a couple of these from machines before brought to me by friends of family, and as it mentions they often download, or open doors for other malware to infect.
    Last one I had to use several different rescue discs on, and combofix once the virus blocking it were out the way; the windows install was just completely locked down and messed up, to the point I had to treat the machine from a livecd, and had well over 40 virus on it. I dont doubt some of them started with the fake AV.

    Hopefully companies will continue to add detection to prevent these taking root on a system, as they're malicious, self-serving things that can often lead to much worse problems.
