Hey gang, I've got an R580, friend of mine has the R480; we both noticed the same problem. Using a USB thumb drive i seem to max out at 5mbps-7mbps in that range. If i use an external USB disk drive (like a passport) i get full speeds 30-40mbps.

I've tried multiple USB thumb sticks, and two different model samsung laptops. is this a problem with the laptop? anyone seeing the same?

The majority of thumb drives have write speeds in the range you are seeing, but read speeds should be faster although I have never seen a USB 2.0 device exceeding 30MB/s.

Small files tend to cause slower write speeds because the caching policy defaults to Quick Removal which means that the device has to confirm that each file has been written before the next one is sent. You can change this setting in Device Manager but must remember to Safely Remove the hardware.

    I'll give that a shot.

Incidentally, i used the same thumbdrive on my work laptop (HP) and i get upwards of 18mbps.
