i came across this thread when my hard drive packed in

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/132091-300gb-2-5-sata-hdd-samsung-q35-2.html

i am looking for a replacement and unsure exactly what type of hard drive to purchase after reading about the PATA/SATA situation with the q35. my hard drive appears to be very similar to the the picture in post 15 but as the the picture in post 12 is also similar with the gold ribbon i am confused.

any help would be much appreciated

The ribbon cable in post 15 has sata written on it, the ribbon cable in post 12 is blank and looks like pata.

The easiest way is to pull the hdd out and look at the connector end if it has 40 pins sticking out it is pata
