I have a Samsung R610.... it does not have a blu-ray drive.... thus, it cannot read blu-ray discs.

If you want to be sure about the optical drive's capabilities then download and run Nero Infotool.

    1. Can you see the various files on a BD disk using Windows Explorer? This will confirm if the ODD is reading the disc OK.

    2. If you can see the files then reinstall the player software.

If i try to explore BD disc it just ejects it , i assumed as it was a combo drive there was only 1 laser reading all types of disc i must be wrong . As it is only three months old , it's pretty poor for it to have gone wrong that quick

That is peculiar and I'm short of other suggestions.

Can you try booting Windows in Safe Mode (press F8 just as Windows is starting to boot) and see if you can Explore the disc contents. This will help eliminate Windows.

If it used to read BD's fine and then one day decides to quit, then it's possible the BD laser is pooped. Are you trying to watch blu-ray movies? Some newer movies come with paper inserts talking about needing the latest firmwares in the players. Maybe that has something to do with it.
