    hey guys,

just got my q35 calvin t5500 today.. its a great notebook, the only thing i dont like is the display (screenbleeding in the lower area of the screen and the realtivly contrast)
anyways, i removed windows XP after a few minutes and installed vista ultimate. as there are drivers out i thought i would get the same functionality out of it, ´damn was i wrong :)
after installing all packages on the samsung site i noticed that:
    networkmanager is not working,
    batterymanager is not working,
displaymanager is not working (probably because im úsing newer drivers)
on screen display for fn keys not working,
    srs wow not working :(

does anybody know how i can get srs wow and the OSD back?

    tia

Are you saying that the Vista drivers posted at the Samsung downloads site are not working? And I see that this sound driver is dated 20 March 07, so there may be another recent change.

If rechecking these drivers / software doesn't fix your problems then I suggest that you contact Samsung support. Any alternative to the phone is to use the electronic messaging system using the email link near the bottom of this page.

    thanks john..
the drivers are working, but the software packages are not... i got them from the german site.. maybe they got faulty drivers :)
i'll try your drivers now.. if i cant get it to work i guess i´m going back to windows xp :(

PS to the previous: BIOS 23SD is also recent - 17th March. Samsung never publsih the fixes but I've just installed it (although I'm still using XP). Maybe it is wishful thinking but my display looks better at full brightness - with BIOS 22SD it was a bit washed out.

yes. i already had that installed :)

incase anybody wants to know, the driver/app responsible for the on screen display is the "magic keyboard"
after downgrading to the GPU drivers on from the samsung site it didnt crash anymore.

i couldnt find a solution to the bad sound under windows vista, which is a result of not having SRS WOW available.
i will stick to XP until newer/better drivers are available :)
vista at this point isnt worth upgrading imho..

The sound driver at the Samsung Global Download site seems to enable the SRS audio. It shows up in the audio properties. However, the Fn + F7 shortcut doesn't work and there is no icon in the Control Panel. Maybe there is meant to be another way to access the facilities.

Can people who have the Q35 with Vista pre-installed use Fn + F7 to change the SRS sound modes?

The Samsung Update Plus on my Q35 (Vista version) has just picked up four updates (see below) including a new sound driver. Now I find there is a set of SRS Audio options buried under the Sound > Playback > Speaker Properties.

Fn + F7 seems to do nothing for me, but the Display Manager crashes when it tries to start.

I mean I get an error message (attached) and it doesn't work. I believe display manager implements certain hot key functions or, at least, shows something on screen to reflect the display setting.

Note that I am using the Vista Business upgrade and I am still in the process of debugging the installation. I still have XP available and working. Maybe I will wipe the Vista and reinstall, again.

I know that the Vista Business has some differences and I would not be surprised if the upgrade versions was not fully tested and debugged.

Samsung will probably point to the little sticker on the "Vista Capable" computers which says that not everything is guaranteed to work.

I believe that the computers sold with Vista pre-installed have everything working better.
