samsung update plus told me i had some updates so i installed them, one of which was a bios update that i now regret installing. when i rebooted after it was all done the word 'reboot' just became 're' because it failed to boot. any ideas on a plan of action? i don't know much about anything like this that lies under the surface of general computer use

The vast majority of Samsung BIOS updates go OK. You can try to reset the CMOS by disconnecting the mains, removing the battery and then holding down the power button for a minute. Then replace battery, connect mains and see if it will start. If you get as far as the BIOS screen then press Esc then choose the BIOS setup and select the rest to defaults option.

Otherwise, I think you will need to give this problem (ie the Q310) to Samsung. Contact technical support.
