Hi
I want to add a secondary HDD to my laptop (np550p7c-s02uk) but I can't find the cable anywhere.
I tried buying a cable for a smaller np550p5c but it was a little bit too small for my laptop.
Does anyone know the part number of the cable I need and maybe a link to somewhere I can get it from?
Thanks

My usual source of part numbers is SamsungParts.com but I can't see anything listed which resembles your requirement.
I suggest you contact Digicare who are probably the biggest Samsung service agent in the UK but you may want to first check through ebay. Is this part the primary or secondary HDD caddy?

Thanks for getting back to me so quickly, John. I have the caddy for both primary and secondary hdd's, it's just the cable I need. I think this cable got shipped with these laptops when they were new for people to add a second hdd if they wished.... I bought mine second hand though, so no cable! Here is a link to a walk through of how to add a secondary hdd. Step 5 shows the cable I need

I can't find anything on eBay. Maybe this laptop wasn't so popular so they didn't make many replacement parts for it. -

Thanks for your help John. This isn't the part I need though. The part I need is just like this one...

I have no idea if that cable will will be long enough though as the cable I already bought was too short. I will take a photo of what I mean so you can see. -
It's a 12 pin connecter that connects to the motherboard and has a sata connection on the other side to connect to the hdd.
the cable I have is just too short. I am thinking about cutting into it and lengthening it...
Maybe that won't be such a good idea though!
Let me know what you think!Attached Files:

Thanks for the clarification. If we make the big assumption that Samsung would standardise where possible then a hard drive cable from another notebook might fit if the connector on the main board has the same configuration. In which case something like this might fit. However, it will be necessary to do some checking with a multimeter to determine whether the voltage coming through the cable will be going to the correct contacts on the HDD.

I hope the connectors are standardised! I think the wire on that connector might be a bit too short... I have emailed the seller and asked him to tell me the length of it. Hopefully I will get a reply soon! In the mean time, I am gonna try and lengthen the cable I already have. Could it do damage to the mobo if the pinout of this cable is different to the original cable to my laptop? Thanks again, John.

I don't think a mis-connection would hurt the board but I would be worried about applying power to the wrong contacts on the drive.
The configuration of the drive's 2.5" connector is standard (15 contacts for power and 7 for data as described here) and it should be possible, after connecting the cable, to power up the computer and check that the voltage in the plug on the drive end of the cable is in the correct place before plugging the drive in. Checking there is +5V between the right contacts and ground is probably the critical factor. If that is OK then the rest is probably correct.
It should be possible, but fiddly, to extend the cable you have got. By the time you have wrapped some electrical tape around each joint in up to a dozen wires (hopefully less) you could get quite a fat cable. Or you could try using some thinner tape since the voltages aren't very high.

hey guys!
I found the cable on the net, bought it and guess what? after one week I was storing the invoice and the warranty together with the one of my NP550P7C and I discovered a plastic envelope with that cable inside, with screws etc.
If someone is interested I can send it for the price I spent to get the new one.
I am from Italy.
p.s. I installed another 1TB hard drive and it works like a charme!

Hello awhizard,
You said you found one on the web... would you mind sharing where you found it? I'm looking for the same connector but can't find the original boxes anymore.
Thanks.

Hello guys,
I'm from Romania and a have a Samsung NP550P7C-S05UK and I had the same problem.
I called at the Samsung CallCentre Romania and they told me to call at the local Samsung authorized service.
I have found the cable at that local Samsung service. The price was 42 LEI ( ~10 euro).
So try to call at the Samsung CallCentre from your country and they will tell you what you have to do.
My notebook have now a 120 GB SSD and 1 TB HDD and it runs very well.
PS: sorry for my bad english -
Hi Patrice!
I have to search for the receipt I don't remember exactly where I found it .. for sure a semi unknown site somewhere
I remember the price that was around 9-10 euros but with something like 10 euros of shipment.
I will post here the site.
Btw if you are interested I can send you the original Samsung one you see in the pic I got with my laptop when I bought it.
you can email me: [email protected]
Thanks,
aw

Hi,
cable length is 8cm, ordered mine here: http://www.ep-mediastore-ab.de/samsung-sata-hdd-cable-ba39-01156a-p-14386.html . They deliver world-wide.
Have a NP550-P7C, put my old system drive as second and exchanged it with a Samsung 850 1TB SSD. Now my notebook works like a new one.
Hope the link helps to find the right cable.
