I bought a samsung rc 730 s04, but it is running very slow. Startup already takes a while, altough it is brand new. I deinstalled norton anti virus and replaced it with antivir in the meantime, but that didn't increase speed as far as I can tell.

What else can I do? The performance of a brand new laptop with a quad core processor and 4gb RAM should be more than sufficient for an average user.

Install and run HWiNFO32 and then run a simple benchmark such as wPrime to check that the CPU is working through its full speed range.

You can also run HD Tune to check the HDD speed - it should peak at around 100MB/s.

Windows should progressively optimise the boot process but I suspect that the HDD is the bottleneck during booting. Quad core CPUs really need SSDs to reduce the input / output bottleneck.
