OK. We need to try to quantify what is happening by monitoring the battery charge / discharge. I suggest you download and install RMClock. We don't need the main functionality of this program but there is a battery info page. Under this there is a page called "Battery device (null)" which gives you the details of your battery.

The three relevent entries on that page are:

    (i) Designed capacity (this should agree with the label on the battery)

(ii) Fully charged capacity (this is what the power management info says the battery can actually store - may reduce with time)

(iii) Remaining capacity (the current charge remaining in the battery)

Since you have bought a new battery, (ii) should be close to (i). When the battery is fully charged (iii) should be the same as (ii). What values are you getting?

I would next go into the BIOS and run the battery cailbration utility. This will take several hours since the battery is discharged and charged under controlled conditions.

Finally, for now, you are suggesting that there is a problem with self-discharge of the battery. This can be quantified by checking the remaining capacity before shutdown and immediately after start-up. How much charge are you losing when the computer is left overnight turned off but not connected to the power?
