hi guys i just bought a samsung np730u3e-s03it and it works fine but i have some serious problem with the touchpad, i was used to have separate buttons for right and left mouse clicking so i'm used to have 2 fingers touching the pad, one to click and the other to move the cursor, this is quite useful for many applications and games and even general browsing, the problem is the modern touchpads recognize the 2 fingers gestures and even by disabling them they have some jumpy movements quite too often or even stop responding to any movement when I use both fingers up to the point of making it totally unusable for me.

I've been up all night searching the net for a solution. i've even tried using a rubber cover on the bottom part of the touchpad but it wouldn't work, because it seems you actually have to have a finger on the pad even to only click it or it wouldn't recognize the click at all, i was also used to press the right button with a fingernail and it isn't working now.

What I've found thanks also to these forums is that there are some elantech drivers around and by tweaking the regedit you should be able to enable all the hidden options, the one option that would really help me with this probelm (that from what i've seen is a problem many people have but none of them solved except from people using synaptics pads) allows you to to disable certain areas of the pad, it's actually called smartarea and by tweaking a little with it I managed to be able to leave a certain area only clickable while disabling all the movement through it or atleast this is what that option should do, but it isn't working!

in the explaination video of that option you see that when a key is pressed (maybe any key from the keyboard, or a specific one, i'm not sure) the selected area should remain unrensponsive, but i've read that if you set the idle time before making it rensponsive again to 0 it should always be unrensponsive, atleast with options of other touchpad manufacturers.

The problem is even with google's help I haven't found a solution to this but I've seen in these forums there are many people that tried different drivers and register tweaks, so maybe someone can help me.

    Hi Drorian, welcome to NBR.

Most of the useful information here about Elan touchpad is gathered in the thread linked below:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...hronos-np700z5a-trackpad-discussion-only.html

There is a secret control panel that provides far more options than the standard control panel. See this post for details.

I am using the Samsung provided Elan driver version 11.7.10.4 which is very smooth and also solved some issues after resuming from sleep. If SW UPdate doesn't offer you this version (or newer) look up a recent model (such as NP880Z5E-X03CA) using the Find Model feature.

hi, thank you for your answer, i've already downloaded the latest elantech drivers from a site i've found online searching around, they are the 11.14.3.1 version, I've enabled all the options via regedit and used the secret control panel you are speaking of but still I can't seem to be able to enable the smartarea function.
ofcourse i've searched that post and the net for smart area keywords but found almost nothing.

to make it clearer, i've found that synaptics touchpads have a similar option to the elan smartarea, and this seemingly allows those touchpads to be used like if they really had two buttons in the lower part of the pad. If this is a frequently requested feature and it's featured in the options I don't know why it just doesn't work nor why nobody seems to speak about it or many other useful secret options of that control panel.

the smartarea option i'm speaking of is enabled throught the registry

    HKEY_CURRENT_USER\Software\Elantech\SmartPadisplay\smartpadarea_display

maybe i should ask in that thread? meanwhile i'll try to find I can find an old driver since i've read that some actually had the smartarea option in the control panel by default.
