    Hi all.

I am a new member and am having problems with my very very trusty Samsung X20. A bit over two years old, this is the first sign of trouble I have had with it.

Last night it just shut down on me while I was using it. Even since it will not boot. When I start it up, it starts to boot and then the CD rom drive sounds and makes a funny noise and then it shut shuts down even though it still says it is on.

I was able to get it to boot this morning for around half an hour before I had to go to work, but ever since it won't boot. Has anyone got any ideas as to what is wrong or what could be causing this? I am at my teathers end and with no Samsung repairer here (that the official site tells me about anyway) I want to know what may be the cause.

Thanks in advance. If you have any more questions about the issue, I would be more then happy to explain them in more detail, but there isn't really that much to explain.

    Thanks,
    Sharpy

Maybe it is overheating, although that should fix itself when it is cold. Start by removing the mains power and the battery and leave the computer for an hour. This might reset some glitch. Are you seeing the BIOS boot-up screen?

Have a look at this thread which gives a useful guide to getting into your X20.

RAM problems can sometimes result in the computer appearing to start but then doing nothing. If you have two modules, take both out then put one back in and try to start. Then try the other one.

    Hi John

Thanks for the reply. It shouldn't be over heating, becasue where I live (Brisbane, Australia) it is winter!

I have tried your suggestion of taking the mains power and then battery out and leaving it for a while.

As for the memory, I am not sure if there are two modules or not. I guess it will be a case of wait and see.
