    Hi,

After a power failure my new X11 Ceseba stopped to work. I can still turn it on, but the only thing that happens is that the status lights for caps lock, num lock, scroll lock and hard disk are all on, while the light for WLAN is off. And the DVD drive starts to work. That's it. My first guess was the hard disk. But I checked it with an external drive on another computer and it was working fine. Anything I can do except send the notebook to Samsung to repair it? The problem is that I'm living in Brazil at the moment and as it seems there is no technical support for notebooks here in Brazil. Any information I can get from the status lights?
Any idea what could have been damaged?

    Thx,
    Thomas

Two thoughts: (1) will the computer boot from the optical drive (there should be a recovery CD/DVD with the computer); (2) disconnect the mains power, take out the battery and leave the computer for an hour, then reconnect and retry.

    Thx John,

I think he doesn't actually boot from CD. I mean there seems to be a difference between a normal CD and a bootable CD. With a bootable CD I can see a little bit more activity(it takes longer). But at the end it stops with nothing on the display. I tried to connect an external display... but nothing. I already tried to run the computer with power supply only, as well as only with battery. No difference.

    Cheers,
    Thomas

    Hi

I am having what sounds like the same problem with one of our Q35s. I'm not sure of events prior to the failure, but the symptoms are as you describe - caps lock, num lock scroll lock, and HDD lights on. There is noise from the HDD, but no display on screen. I have tried connecting a monitor but had no luck. I am about try the battery removal trick as you mention. Did anyone find out what the problem was and a solution?

I don't recall any further info on the cause of this type of problem.

The other possibility I would try is removal / replacement of the RAM (the Q35 should work with just the on-board RAM).
