    Hi all
I have a R60 Plus laptop and a A4Tech R7-70MD optical wireless mouse. The problem occurs in WinXP: after some time of inactivity (5-15 minutes) the mouse stops responding (cursor freezes). Only unplugging and replugging the receiver from USB-port solves the problem... for another 5-15 min.
In Windows Vista there's no such problem - mouse works fine.
Also I tried it on my desktop PC running Windows XP: the mouse works fine.
So I guess threre's a problem with WinXP power management or smth. - as if it powers down USB port... but on my desktop PC it's OK. Strange... Any ideas??

Go to the USB hub power options in Device Manager and deselect "Allow the computer to turn off this device to save power".

    No, doesn't help :(
I tried this before on 1 usb-hub where the mouse was located, but this time I deselected the "save power" option on all the 6 hubs of my notebook - no result.
And in device manager - the USB-HID compatible device is shown as yellow exclamation mark. When I click on properties - it reports of an error (code 43). When I disable and reenable it, like I said, the mouse starts working for another 5-15 minutes

OK. so not USB power management so perhaps a driver issue.

Are you running XP SP3 and the latest A4Tech driver?

I tried XP SP2 and SP3 (clean install without any drivers and with all drivers installed). And the driver from A4tech didn't help either...
Again on desktop pc under XP it works fine.
I thought it might be a problem with some interference with other wireless devices on the notebook (wlan, bluetooth...) But then why under Vista it works fine?

Google does have a few other hits about wireless mice not responding. I have, in the past, had problems with erratic behaviour by the cheaper wireless mice. Most recently I have been using a Logitech VX Nano which, while expensive, have been well-behaved. However, when I'm travelling I use a wired mouse because they are lighter (no battery).

There's a lot you can do to improve Vista. See the Vista Tweaks thread in the Windows forum.

All I do is to lock UAC in its kennel, set the Visual Effects to Best Performance + Smooth Screen Fonts and turn off the Sidebar and I then reckon that with 1GB or more of RAM, Vista runs more smoothly than XP. SuperFetch reduces the lag in starting applications.

"lock UAC in kernel" ?.. If I disable it in msconfig - it is not enough??

I said "kennel" (= dog-house) not "kernal". If you have disabled it in msconfig then you have done enough.

I replaced this crappy A4tech by Logitech V150 (had to pay ~10 bucks more).
Well, it's not wireless... even more to it, the wire is too short (~70 cm). But it works perfectly under WinXP :)
