    Hi,

i recently bought a series 5 np530u4c laptop equipped with 2 hard-drives: the first with 500gb the later with 24gb ssd for expresscache purposes.
when i was running with windows 7 the expresscache functionality worked well (my only indication of that is via the Samsung easy settings app that showed a little consumption graph of the cache used in the ssd drive, and that fact that apps loaded fast :)).
a few days ago i upgraded to windows 8 pro and installed all the latest updated from the Samsung update software(now called sw update).
but after the installation i noticed some odd things, first when i went to the task manager under the performance tab i see no activity from the ssd drive (no read and no write) and that it has 0mb of formatted data (i added img1.jpg).
the second thing is that in the Samsung easy settings app does not show anymore the little cache consumption graph that it used to show in the windows 7 version (i added img2.jpg).
the third thing is that under drive management i see that the ssd drive is divided into 2 drives: the first i 16.36gb and it is all FREE and the second id 6gb hibernation partition which is also free (i added img3.jpg).
want concerns my is the the sdd drive is FREE and it seems that the feature isn't working.

    these are my software specs:
windows 8 pro (clean install) fully updated.
    sw update version 2.1.3.18
    expresscache version 1.0.94.0
    easy settings version 2.0.0.31

    img1.jpg img2.jpg img3.jpg

    Any thoughts?
    Thanks.

What you are seeing in the Computer Management screen is perfectly normal. Windows will show the SSD as 100% free even though ExpressCache is functioning. To query the usage of the SSD please use the command line interface supplied with ExpressCache. Simple open a command line window, as an administrator, and type in the following:

    ECCmd -info

This will show you that the drive is mounted and will highlight the usage of the caching device. Keep in mind that the cache takes some time to populate. It is not instantaneous. It will populate as the system reads LBAs off of the HDD. If you find that the SSD is not mounted when you query it from the ECCmd command then you may have an instance where ExpressCache is not loaded properly or the SSD is not accessible by the OS.

    I hope this helps.

Let me know how are you going to solve this problem, because I won't buy the laptop if there is no way to fix SSD, Windows 8 upgrade issue!

I have the 15.6" NP700Z and was also spooked when I saw the 8GB iSSD with 0% activity in the Task Manager as well. I think it is seeing this because the iSSD may be formatted in a different format (non-NTFS). I think my ExpressCache is still working, even when I see this because my laptop start up pretty quick (10-15s) and programs execute fairly quick too.

I have that problem like OP. But, I already disable/off the EC from easy settings like in this thread.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/638783-some-new-progress-expresscache-issue.html

I have do the step and get sector not found as requested when I trying to convert gpt and all command like format/partition on win7 installer setup DVD.

Still confuse how to resolve this. Is there anyone experience with this and successful to resolved ?
