After some frustrating weeks trying to get Windows 7 working, I have finally managed it. This involved updating the BIOS to the latest version from the Samsung website (v0.3LK) and then using the Nvidia GeForce Release 186 for Notebooks driver instead of the Samsung one for video. Win 7 manages to have drivers for most of the hardware.

Most importantly though, the Vista x64 Easy Display Manager works!! I can happily use the blue function keys without crashing the laptop.

Now I haven't tested all hardware drivers yet (I still have one unidentified USB object in device manager) but this is a very stable system now. I ventured forth and installed all my dev software (SQL Server, Visual Studio etc) and all is working a dream... now for that Win 7 prerelease order...

Now I'm not sure what is in the new BIOS that fixed previous attemps, as there is no real info on what is in the new BIOS (or more to the point it doesn't say anything about Win 7) and there are still no official Win 7 drivers from Samsung... but a fix is a fix and I hope you others that are having issues this might be a ray of hope.

    Any questions - just ask!!

Im currently using my R510 as a paper weight :)

I bet the same problem that existed in prior R610 bios versions is currently present in the r510 and q310 and is why 4gb and any 64 bit operating system crashes.

I would hope after a month they have come to a conclusion :)

Hi, I also have the R610 and I just installed Windows 7. It works like a charm, but I have the same problem as you. After updating the bios the loop-reboot-error is gone... But I can't seem to make the Easy Display Manager work. Can you provide me with a download link?

You will have to use the x64 Vista version from here. This is the version I am running and all is still fine!!!

Hmm, I can't make the driver work :( It tries to install it but gives me an error: "KMDFMemIo Driver Installer was not launced successfully" Where have you purchased the laptop? Any suggestions?
