    Hi all!
I have Samsung R560 with Vista Home Premium, and now I decided to do a clean install of Windows 7 x86 (by formatting C: from within Windows 7 installation). And now I have some doubts after reading the forum....

Could you please help me with the following questions?

    1. Will Windows 7 rewrite the MBR so that it will be impossible to use Samsung Recovery Solution to roll back to Vista (which is on the hidden partition)?

    2. Will Recovery Solution 3 work under Windows 7 so that, for example, it will be possible to do a full backup to an external HDD?

    3. Will Easy Display Manager work and will "Fn + keys" function under Windows 7? Looks like there were problems with EDM on 64-bit version (with dimming and so on), but what about 32-bit?

    Thanks in advance!

I haven't tried this for myself but the recovery partition is a non-Windows format that can be accessed from the BIOS level (if you press the right key).

It should be totally independent of the MBR.

Can't comment on 1 and 2, but I'm running the newest Vista Easy Display Manager from samsungs site on Win 7 RTM x64 on a R610 and all appears to work ok (touches wood quickly). All the FN keys seem to work, and I've had this running in the boardroom fast switching displays praying it held together and it did!!

I'm running on an R510 with Win 7 X64 (and the backup program will load off the other drive).
However, my EDM dosnt work unless I boot win 7 turning off driver signing because apparently the EDM driver isnt signed?! Which download did you get degragUK? The FN keys work fine when I do this but I cant be bothered to load windows this way every time. If I dont load this way none of the FN keys work at all.

There's a big choice of 64 bit Samsung software for the new Samsung X series. There's a good chance that they may work with the other Samsung notebooks. Choose from here. Or try the R520 software.

    Cheers John,

Tried installing the 2.4.2.0 Easy Display Manager 64Bit. It errors on install saying it cant start the service, when I install as XP/Vista or Windows 7. It then pops up saying "windows requires a digitally signed driver" and points to the KMDFMEMIO service, and KMDFMEMIO.sys as the driver that isnt signed.

Seems a bit strange to me as surely it must have to be signed for windows vista, maybe the 64bit support is still a bit off?

Now, when Windows 7 is officially out, did anyone try to use Samsung Recovery Solution for backup and recovery? Please help cause that's the only question that stops me from installing Windows 7. :(

The recovery partition is set up by Samsung when they install the HD. I recently did a clean install and tried everything to re-create it but couldnt get Recovery solution 2 to work. I emailed Samsung and they said they have to set it up. Even cloning the HD didnt work. If you do a clean install you will lose the samsung recovery features.

An upgrade may be your only solution.

Just use another utility to back up your drive image.

    W7 Ultimate includes Backup,

or you could use a third party program such as Acronis True Image Home (what I use).

Casper 5.0 works well also. I did a clone of my X460 drive before running the Win7 Prof. upgrade. Install went well after uninstalling several non-compatible apps. Now re-installing updated drivers for fingerprint sensor, Omni-Pass, etc. etc. Amazing thing is that the keyboard Functions and toggle keys all work so far! And the Recovery partition is there intact if I so need it...

Thanks for all your replies! I'll try to do an upgrade next weekend. Anyway, I don't understand why can't Samsung give us the utility that fixes this problem with Recovery Solution...
