    Hello

What is Infineon Security Platform TMP? And should I run the initialisation?

    Background
An icon has appeared in the bottom right hand corner of my taskbar called "TPM" and when I mouseover it says "TPM initialised, Security Platform not initialised".

I am running a "Samsung Series 7 Ultra notebook, Model: NP740U3E-S04UK". I work from home and use it for work. I have been using the laptop for 1.5 years and have never heard of all this, so I am concerned that this *may* a scam. This laptop does not have any security devices such a fingerprint / keycard (etc.) that I know of.

I tried to uninstall it but it came up with lots of warnings to say the my device may become unreadable...

    J

Yes I saw the TPM page on Wikipedia. But it didn't help. It basically says that TPM is some sort of dedicated microprocessor chip that my laptop may or may not have. I do not know whether my laptop has such a thing, and if it does I have no idea what it is used for. The only security on my laptop is the Windows 8.1 password. Maybe it's something to do with that. If no I do not want it.

I am terrified of making my laptop unreadable. And equally terrified of installing some sort of scam. The only security I want on my computer is the Windows password. Maybe the chip if I have such a chip will help. Or not. Either way I dont know why it has only now just appeared on the taskbar.

Who will rid me of this infernal TPM message?

I doubt it is a scam but yes it could easily make the system unreadable. It is by all means a security measure. From what it looks like Infineon is a package, most likely that got installed. My suggestion is if it is not enabled yet then just uninstall it.

So long as EFS has not been activated/configured then follow the instructions and uninstall it.

But how do I discover is EFS has been activated/configured?

I tried running TPM Management on my laptop but it said I needed to supply a TPM Owner Password. I have no record of such a thing. :^(
