I'm spending a great deal of time outdoors with my Samsung Series 9 ultrabook and I would like to purchase an external battery/power bank. However, I am puzzled as to compatibility. I have been advised to try the Anker Astro pro power bank ( http://www.amazon.co.uk/Anker-20000...ebooks/dp/B00BUJCMUQ/ref=pd_rhf_cr_p_t_1_8HV6), but I am not absolutely certain it will fit my Samsung series 9?

Anyone knows if it works? Or has tried some other external battery? I wouldn't try anything less than 15000/20000 mAh, or at least, preferably two extra charges.

The only way you can get power into your notebook is through the AC adapter socket, which needs a 19 volt supply. The Anker battery will supply this voltage. However, none of the supplied power plugs will fit the Series 9 which uses a 2.5mm (OD) x 0.7mm (ID) plug as shown here. You could try to find out from Anker whether that plug is available as an option.

Your Series 9 battery has a capacity of 40Whr or more (depending on the model). The Anker battery expresses its capacity in mAh which is meaningless without knowing the voltage. If we assume the voltage is 3.75V then the capacity would be 75Whr, which is enough to refill the Series 9 battery at least once.

It looks to be a good choice provided a power plug compatible with the series 9 can be sourced. If Anker don't have it then the DC1 plug here should fit the Series 9 (it might be a bit loose since the OD is a little small). It can be connected to one of the other plugs using a socket of the appropriate size and a short length of cable. You will also need a soldering iron.
