OK - so I installed Vista Home Premium yesterday and everything is fine with the exception of no sound, the buttons on the right side of the keyboard don't work and some of the shortcut buttons don't work when holding FN.

The sound dirver on the Samsung website doesn't work and I can't use the drivers from XP cos I only have an XP recovery disc and can't see anything on that disc.

I take it that Samsung are working on Vista drivers right now?

Will they eventually elease updated software so that all preinstalled software such as SRS and Auto Update etc will work?

Any estimations of when Vista drivers will be released?

Personally, I hope that Samsung give priority to getting the PowerPlay for the X1700 working under XP.

The sticker on the bottom of the X60plus gives a warning about potential application incompatibility with Vista. Perhaps this warning also covers Samsung specific software.

I would also point out that the NP-X60plus download site contains the same files as the previous X60. The NT-X60plus downloads (on the Samsung global download site) contains the X60plus (they are actually multi-language) and, maybe, Vista specific drivers will appear here first. Which drivers / software are you using with your Vista?

PC World are advertising a Q35 with Vista, but there is no sign yet of any Vista-specific downloads for the Q35 except for a BIOS update.

    Hi John,

Thanks for that. I will keep my eyes peeled to their and similar.

I'm just using the drivers that came with Vista at the moment. Everything is fine except for sound.

I'm sure evetually Samsung will release software/drivers so that the buttons on the right side work etc....so long as it doesn't take months i.e. end of March I'll be happy to wait.

In the meantime I will continue my search for a sound driver that works.

P.s the X60 handles Vista very well.

If you have any queries about Vista on the X60 I'll be happy to help :)

I would suggest that you try the existing X60plus XP drivers for the missing functions, in case they work. You should have received three disks with your X60plus. One is purple and called System Software Media. This, if Vista will allow, will boot into a menu where you can select what you want to install (select the custom option). I would start with the sound driver and the magic keyboard. Alternatively, download them from the NT-X60plus downloads.

You may also want to contact Samsung support.

    Hi John.

I installed that driver from the disc and everything seemed fine (no errors etc) but for some reason I cannot find anything to do with it on my harddrive or when I try and select a driver.

It's really bizare. I will be ringing Samsung this weekend.

Looking at your signature: Is your HDD only 100GB? Mine came with the Fujitsu MHV2120BH PL is is a nominal 120GB.

If you can see about 100GB then you have got a 120GB HDD. The difference is explained by (i) 120GB is never 120GB but something smaller (its 1000/1024 multiplied by itself a few times); (ii) the AV Station Now partition; and (iii) the recovery partition. There was much discussion some months back when the 100GB machines showed up as 86GB.

John is right, you own a 120 GB hard drive does not mean you can get 120 GB, there will be only about 110 GB, but if you see 101 GB, I think there should be a few GB hidden. I may join you guys soon. I ordered a X60 yesterday. I am a chinese guy, studying in UK.
