    Hi guys,

I just bought an X-65 together with the X-Dock docking station. I also want to buy one of these large 30" displays with a resolution of 2560*1600. The technical specs of the X-65 state, that a maximum external resolution is 2048*1536. I checked the NVidia site and according to the GPU spec, 2048*1536 is the max. resolution for the analog output (which is the only output of the notebook itself). However, the GPU can handle up to 2560*1600 via DVI. I would think that the technical spec of the notebook only lists the analog max. resolution, as the digital output is only available using the X-Dock docking station. Hence, I wonder if it's possible to use a 30" monitor at 2560*1600 via the DVI output of the X-Dock.
I talked to the german Samsung support, but unfortunately they seem not very competent :( Has any user here has experience with such a scenario?

    Cheers,

    Thorsten

to get the full 2560x1600 res you need a DUAL LINK DVI capable gfx card and as far as i know i dont think they make those for laptops. mid-high end pc graphics cards sometimes stuggle at that res.

I have just tried 2560x1600 on my X60. It worked on the laptop's LCD. Obviously I could not see the whole screen at once, I had to scroll, but this at least means that even the ATI X1600 can hande this resolution.
So the only questions remains whether the x-dock port transmits digital video signals, or only VGA signals which then are converted to DVI. In the first case, you're on the safe side. On the other....

I talked to Samsung and they told me that its impossible. However, they argued that the Gfx chip does not support it, which is definitely wrong (always great when support technicans don't know their products...).
I have installed a new NVidia driver and now I can at least setup the high resolution - the "only" remaining question is if Xdock supports dual link. I think I'll give it a try and send the display back if it does not work.
