My Chronos 7 has a Intel 6235 wifi adapter and am looking into upgrading it to a 3x3 (such as a 6300) in order to make better use of my N900 router.

Is it as simple as dropping in the card? What about the extra antenna? I've never replaced a network adapter on a notebook before, but will I run into a problem going from 2x2 to 3x3. Thanks.

As you have identified, the problem is with the extra antenna which is not built into the notebook.

You would have to figure out where to put this where it is not shielded by metal and I don't know whether the relative positioning of the antennae is also significant.

It would be something to undertake as an experimental project if the cost is modest and expecting no more than a 50% chance of seeing an improvement.

An alternative would be to consider upgrading to the 7260 which might have some other challenges such as getting Bluetooth working properly. The fix, reported in one of the other threads, is to tape over one of the contacts on the card.
