I'm trying out an imaging program - Image for Windows - which produces a rescue CD called Image for Linux. When I boot from that CD, everything works fine, except that it doesn't find my external drive on the USB3 port, so I have to use USB2.

My computer is a Samsung Series 5 laptop - NP550P5C - with two USB2 and two USB3 ports. The USB3 ports work fine from within Windows. One of the USB3 ports is configured to be always ON, even when the computer is off. But using that port doesn't help.

The external drive is a WD My Passport Essential SE.

I don't know what build of Linux is used for IFL, but the documentation states that it supports USB3.

Am I missing something here, or is the Samsung USB3 implementation not quite ready for prime time? Or am I just asking for too much?

Probably the version does not include the newer drivers needed for these systems. Third generation chipsets require all new drivers. You either need to get the drivers installed to the distro, kind of tough if it is a boot DVD, or get a image with the drivers already on there.
