    Hi everyone,

I got an Ativ Book 9 2014 Edition yesterday and am having some issues with the track pad...

Tapping the touchpad instead of pressing: When tapping to go to a different tab on chrome, instead of navigating to the tab I want to go to, the laptop either drags the tab away to form a new window, or moves the tab's position in the window... I don't have this problem when I press the touchpad, only when tapping.

track pad delay: there's always a delay when I move my finger across the touch pad. It doesn't recognise small movements either. It waits until you've been moving your finger across the touchpad for a while before it starts moving... it's not a huge delay but it's annoying enough...

I can't for my life, find where the touchpad settings are. I've found some but they are infuriatingly basic.

Does anyone have any advice for me?

    Thanks,

    Mat

    Hi kovsky, welcome to NBR.

It sounds like you have One-Finger Drag and Drop enabled. You can disable it in the Touchpad control panel. I personally use that feature a lot (and hardly ever press the buttons anymore) although it takes some getting used to.

Try and tweak Palm Tracking and/or Sensitivity in the Advanced Settings in the Touchpad control panel.

The main controls are under Windows Control Panel - Touchpad. There is also an extensive unofficial control panel called ETDAniConf, which you can read about here and here.

Most discussion about Elan touchpads can be found in the following thread (for all models, despite the thread title):

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...hronos-np700z5a-trackpad-discussion-only.html

There has also been much discussion in the Ativ Book 9 Plus Owners Lounge:

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/samsung/733030-2013-ativ-book-9-plus-owner-s-lounge-np940x3g.html

I suggest you scan backwards through those threads for relevant discussions.

This is the extent of my control panel. There's no section for the touchpad, only the touch screen.

Thanks. Which model number do you have?

If you have the new 15.6 inch NP930X5J or NP940X5J then your touchpad is different from previous Samsung laptops. The Owners Lounge for those models (linked below) should be your best place for help from other owners. First scan or search the thread for relevant posts.

    http://forum.notebookreview.com/sam...2014-15-6-haswell-announced-jan-6-2014-a.html

BUT, if it is any other recent Book 9 (including this year's NP900X3G or last year's NP940X3G) then you DO indeed have an Elan touchpad, but it would seem the Elan drivers have not been properly installed. Did you buy this laptop new or refurbished (by someone other than Samsung)? Or did you buy it from Microsoft Store (which is known to strip the installation quite aggressively)?

I suggest you use the Programs and Features control panel to uninstall any existing touchpad drivers, then use SW Update (the tool used to fetch Samsung drivers and other software) to install the touchpad driver.

There are different versions of Elan Touchpad drivers, and SW Update only installs the latest version that Samsung happened to publish for your particular model. I personally prefer version 11.7.10.4, which can be found in SW Update through the Find Model feature under model NP880Z5E-X03CA, Win8 drivers. Just save that driver locally (Export) and install it. Again, the two threads I linked in my previous post contain much useful discussion about that.

Maybe no one has the answer.

I don't have first hand experience of this notebook but recall that it is a different (not Elan) pad and has very basic driver support.

    Hi
Was having issues with my 2014 13.3 9 Plus touchpad. Upgrading the driver from Samsung helped but still was erratic in remote desktop sessions where I spend half my day (I am an IT Consultant).

My fix, as crazy as it sounds, was downloading an Elan/Synaptics driver from Lenovo and installing it. The install initially failed but then I forced the driver install from the install folder created by the Lenovo driver.

Rebooted, and Shazam! It's a beautiful thing

Before the Book 9 (2014) owners get excited, I think you are referring to the 13.3" Book 9 Plus (which has an Elan pad) while this thread refers to the 15.6" Book 9 (2014) which uses some other pad.
