    Hi.

I have a 14 inch series 7 (NP700Z3A) where the fan constantly turns on and off during regular use (appx every 5th second).

The machine has 8GB og ram and an SSD, and is running windows 7 with a minimum of services (MS security essentials with no scheduled jobs, dropbox, poweriso). I see no reason why the fan should even start when there are about 20 C in the room and I only have Chome open with one tab displaying notebookreview.com...

I've tweaked the different power settings but with no result. When the fan runs and I enable silent mode, the fan stops immediately, but after a few seconds it starts again.

I have also said that Chrome and most other normal programs should use the Intel graphics.

    Any advice on how to
    1) Stop the fan from turning on and off all the time
    2) Reduce fan activity overall?

    Hey!

I have the same problem with the fan and it's extremely annoying! Have you found a solution yet?

    Unfortunately not.

Waiting for a X1 Carbon so I don't spend much time searching for a solution :)

Oh, okay. Opened the laptop today and been using it for about 5 hours and didn't raise the fan speed even once, weird...?!

The cause may be that the fan rules have been set with the on / off temperatures too close together. I would run HWiNFO and start logging the temperatures every two seconds to see if the temperatures go up / down as the fan cuts out / in.

I actually turned the max processor state to 20% and after that the fan sound hasnt turned up even once. The computer is mostly used for surfing, office etc so it being a bit slower doesn't actually matter since it can't be noticed in light use.
