    hi everyone, i have a samsung series 5NP530 U3C

im on windows 8 at the moment, i have noticed that my ultrabook has started getting very hot, now my average temperature is in the 80s whereas processor intensive work takes it into the 90s i cannot hear my fan whirring which i used to before i even toggled the fan silent mode but to no avail, dunno if this is a windows 8 problem because im sure its not a hardware issue.

Here is another recent similar incident. That problem was fixed by downgrading the BIOS.

If you are still in warranty then it may be easiest to ask Samsung to fix the problem.

Downgrading the BIOS is worth trying if arranging service isn't easy. The process is discussed here.

I would also check the fan itself which will involve removal of the computer base. Some notebooks used to check the fan as part of the BIOS system check but I think that got dropped because people want computers that boot more quickly (and recent CPUs should self-throttle if they get over 95C).

Given that this is the second report of fan problems within a couple of weeks I have to wonder whether there's a bug in one of the recent BIOS updates that Samsung need to be aware of. They are more likely to take notice if the computer has to be serviced.
