    Series 5 (NP530U) Service Manual

    Does anyone have a link for the Series 5 service manual? I would like to have a look at replacing the optical drive with a HDD caddy.

    See this thread. The NP530 may be similar to the R530 (I haven't studied either in detail).

    Thanks for the reply John, unfortunately this is the new ultabook 530 and the manual refers to the old 530. There is a single screw marked ODD under the unit but either there are some internal fastenings or the drive is wedged in real tight it will not move much with just the ODD screw removed.

    It might just be a tight fit. In the past there has usually been a single retaining screw so that the ODD can be changed without further disassembly. The only way you can find out is to remove the base. Is that screwed on clipped together plastic or both?

    Clipped and screwed, I have had a good look at the base and it is not quite clear where to start. Looking at the drive/memory bay it almost looks like access if from the keyboard like the Acer notebooks, but I do see a thin seam running along the base that one may be able to lift. The repair manual would have been a nice starting point.
