    Screen replacement and power issue Samsung Series 9 NP900X3C Laptop

    Hi,

    The LCD screen on my laptop began to develop a series of horizontal lines and over the course of two weeks it went from 3 or 4 lines to a total blurred white out making the screen completely unviewable.
    I bought a replacement screen assembly and installed it and it appeared to work just fine. However once the remaining battery charge depleted, the laptop would not turn on and did not seem to charge. I tried the unplug, battery reset, hold power button combo but could not get the computer to power up.
    I reinstalled the non-functioning screen and now the computer will power up - but I cannot see anything on the screen.
    I wondered if it was something to do with the comp not recognising that the replacement screen was open. Has anybody got any advice or similar experience of this.
    I'm cracking up a bit here as I thought it was solved but now it's not :(

    Was the replacement screen a complete screen, lid, hinge and cable unit as shown here? This would eliminate the risk of the cable being damaged. The next potential troublespot would be the connector on the mainboard. Could the plug for the new screen have worked loose?

    Hi,

    yes it was exactly that,
    The plug was not loose when I dismantled the comp to put the old broken screen back on and I reattached the 'new' screen when I saw that it was powering up with the old, broken screen.

    I tried it with the old screen both with and without the battery and it worked fine also.
    but with the new screen it did not power up either way

    Fascinatingly, I've been having a similar issue with my ATIV 700t - I had a month of occasional flickering horizontal lines, which didn't seem to get better or worse with time. Then right about the time of the original post on this thread, I suddenly had no display whatsoever. I could use it with an external monitor via the mini-HDMI, but the screen itself was and is still dead, dead, dead.

    Windows 10 doesn't appear to even see the hardware for the built-in LCD. I brought it to a repair place who replaced the LCD (along with backlight and cables) with no change. Then, assuming it was the motherboard, he replaced that- still no display!

    Because of the timing and similar symptoms, I'm wondering if our issues are somehow related- perhaps to an update that got installed in the wee hours and somehow bricked our displays?

    Even if Windows screwed up the display, it should still work at the BIOS level. Keep tapping one of more of Esc, F1, F2, F10 & F12 immediately after turning on the computer.

    If you get to the BIOS screen and it is OK then delete all the monitor devices in Device Manager and reboot. This should force Windows to redetect and reconfigure the displays. However, if that doesn't work then the problem can be caused some settings in the registry which have to be deleted.

    I tried rebooting and getting to the BIOS, but if I did it properly there was no display (I'm assuming using an external monitor via the mini-HDMI would not function at the BIOS level). So I'm starting to suspect my issues may not be purely Windows related.

    I did manage to update the graphics card drivers, which made no difference whatsoever. In the Device Manager I show two generic PnP monitors (I'm assuming that's my built-in screen and my external) with no conflicts.

    The Intel Display Manager app can't seem to see any information about the built-in monitor- it sees there is one, but resolution and orientation are greyed out, and if I try to select monitor #1 as my main monitor it shows an error message (can't recall what it said exactly) and kicked back to the external display.

    I read another forum post elsewhere that someone simply deleted their graphics card drivers and solved a similar problem, but I'm not sure I'm comfortable doing that. Right now having to rely on an external monitor is better than nothing!
