According to Rescuecom, Samsung has the least problems compared to its market share. Followed by Lenovo and Asus. It shame for Apple to be 4th while selling Premium Laptops only. According to Rescuecom, premium laptops have less problems that budget models.

    1. Samsung (422)
    2. Lenovo/IBM (255)
    3. Asus (159)
    4. Apple (130)
    5. Toshiba (117)
    6. HP/Compaq (109)
    7. Dell (79)
    8. Sony (49)
    9. Acer (28)

I owned a lenovo before this Samsung and a HP before that and I'd say these figures don't correspond with reality (HP had a few problems with a few of their graphics cards in some models over the last couple of years which many are very upset about, but do I believe Lenovo makes a better laptop than HP , NO WAY).

I would agree that there are far fewer people on the net complaining about Samsung laptops than I seen complain about other laptops, but to be honest I've never seen so many people complaining about any product ever, than I seen complaining about Lenovo laptops and I went to the Lenovo forum every day.

I'm surprised to see only 1.1% market share for Samsung. Perhaps the market penetration in the US is significantly behind Europe and Asia where Samsung have been selling notebooks for longer.

Even more surprising is that support is factored into the score, which is an area where we know that Samsung is well behind some of the other brands.

I don't work on PC support in an organization but my experience with hp is very bad. The nearly 4 year old laptop is still alive and with me but I made 7 parts replacements.

Yea I've had to replace parts on 2 of the HP's that we've owned in this household, both laptops were under warranty, using the HP diagnostic tool we found that 1 laptop needed a new battery and the other a harddrive. The battery, HP shipped 1 out in 3 days and the with the harddrive, they gave me the option to send it in by DHL paid by HP (both ways) to replace the part or they would send 1 out by DHL,

I not only got 1 sent out in under a week, I had a 5400rpm HDD and they sent a 7200rpm, some people on the Lenovo site (depending where they lived) not only had to paid one way for the shipping, but to replace a harddrive took many weeks with their PC gone. I must say that I don't think Samsung's customers service is as good as HP, it took me 3 months to register my laptop using Samsung's online tools, I only hope that's not an indication of what I could expect if I need service. From my experience with HP, IMO you can't get any better customer service, I know others will differ, but I can only tell you what happened to me.

This could possibly be a result of a much larger share of Lenovo laptops than Samsung on the market. I have found that there are so many discrepancies regarding reliability that it is almost impossible to make a cogent decision based on what you read on the web. I think some of these discrepancies are a result of people unwilling to admit that they bought a bad computer, or they consider the computer bad because Windows 8 was installed,or a variety of other reasons. I've given up on relying on what most people post, considering most laptops are inferior to desktops, particularly the lower cost machines. I have decided to go with a Toshiba Satellite and take me chances.

The research not made by asking users. Rescuecom is a PC maintenance company. They give ranking based on the ratio of market share and problem share from their customers. This is most accurate reliability study in my view.

Toshiba Satellite is a budget model and Satellite always suffers from poor quality. So you better choose a better model from a reliable brand.

The following is the reason I posted what I did: Toshiba’s great products are backed up by great reliability. Squaretrade ranks Toshiba as the second most reliable brand with a two year failure rate of just under 10%. Consumer Reports gives Toshiba the top spot, with a failure rate of 15%. Customer service is average, thanks largely to a website which isn’t as helpful as it could be. If you have to call in you’ll typically find that hold times are short and that the customer service representatives are helpful.
Furthermore, the latest data I could find from Square Deal was 2009. I don't need a super laptop for email, surfing the web and looking for things while in another room. I have two Dell Desktops, one XPS-410 and a XPS-8300 providing all the power I need. I just need a moderately priced laptop for home use and occasional travel. BTW, I am not a gamer.

For light use, Toshiba Satellite is ok.

Toshiba went through a bad patch about 5 years ago which prompted them to give more attention to reliability and durability.

If that's all you want to do, you don't really need a laptop, you'd be better off looking at a tablet
